After a couple of tries, I’ve gotten the hang of using my electronic yogurt maker to turn a few cups of whole milk into delicious yogurt. I could hardly believe how easy it is to go the next step and turn the yogurt into cream cheese. You can, of course, do this with store-bought yogurt.
Start with the plain yogurt.
Wrap the yogurt in cheese cloth secured at the top and then hang it so the liquid drips out. That’s the one easy step.
In about 5 hours or so, you’ll have cream cheese. It will taste extremely tart.
There are so many ways to flavor it. You could add honey for a breakfast spread. Or, use the cheese as a traditional Middle Eastern labneh with mezze. I added minced garlic and thyme from the garden. Then, before serving the spreadable cheese at our summer food swap, I drizzled some olive oil over the top. Tasty!
