For the Love of Cheese

For the Love of Cheese

In honor of National Cheese Day today, we thought we’d share some of our favorite cheese-related posts. From serving and storing to baking and enjoying, let’s take a moment to celebrate all things cheese. First, what every cheese lover needs, a cheese serving board. Here’s an easy one you can make and customize with a wood-burning tool. To keep your cheese tasting its best, check out these storage tips from Del Ray’s “cheeselady,” Jill Erber. Have you ever tried making your own cheese? Here’s a type of cream cheese you can make from yogurt. Some of our favorite baked recipes include cheese such as homemade fig rugelach, asiago pesto bread, butternut squash tart and spinach pie. Kicking Off Summer

Kicking Off Summer

I can’t imagine a better way to end a three-day weekend than with a neighborhood potluck picnic — cold drinks, delicious food, and kids running amok in the yard on a gorgeous 80-degree day. Recently, they treated all of us to Peruvian feast. (Erik is wearing his Peruvian Walon football jersey especially for the occasion.) While preparing the feast, Anne set the scene in their home with items they brought back from Peru, such as this photography book, a pitcher from Arequipa, and artwork. In Peru, she says, “you are served a big bowl of these choclo, or giant roasted corn nuts, in restaurants as a snack.” As with the Georgian Feast, the food kept coming and coming. Here is causa, layered mashed potatoes with chicken salad, tomatoes, and avocados. As for drinks, there were the usual...

Summer Is…

Summer Is…

Summer is having friends over for a casual dinner. A trio of spreads for bruschetta — red pepper and feta, garden grown pesto and hummus. Drinking wine and listening to old records… Grilled corn and cheeseburgers with refreshing bean and mango salad. And homemade vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip cookies on the deck. How are you enjoying the fresh tastes of...
