Bargain Shopping at the MV Big Flea
The MV Big Flea, the huge fundraiser for the Mount Vernon Community School, is now collecting (and selling!) donations of household items and furniture. After three donation drop-offs, the warehouse is filling up.
There will be donation drop-offs every month leading up to the main event on April 28, 2018. You can also purchase anything that has already been donated… and there are some great deals in store…
For example, this Drexel dining table with four lyre back chairs, leaves and table pads is in excellent condition and a steal for only $300. The seat covers are in good condition, but could easily be swapped out with other fabric.
We’ve seen everything from antique secretary desks to mid-century dressers to 80s style wood bed frames. A lot of the items are posted on the Flea Facebook page and they take special requests for viewing furniture if you can’t attend a drop-off or shopping day. Local delivery is available for an additional fee.
If you aren’t in the market for furniture, it’s always fun to browse the housewares side of the warehouse where you’ll see china sets, glassware and serving dishes, home decor, frames and wall art, small kitchen appliances, garden supplies, electronics and DVDs, sporting goods and tons of toys and baby gear.
They accept anything with resale value that you’d typically find at a yard sale. However, they can’t accept clothing, books, stuffed animals, most upholstered couches and bulky TV armoires and china cabinets. Check out the donation guide for a complete list of acceptable items. If you aren’t sure if something can be donated, you can send a description of the item to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next two donation drop-off and shopping opportunities are (more dates in February and March to be posted soon):
Saturday, January 6, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Sunday, January 21, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
