The Luray Avenue Christmas Cards
In December, Del Ray’s 300 block of Luray Ave. becomes Del Ray’s Christmas Card Lane. If you’ve traveled down the street, you’ve seen the impressive over-sized painted plywood cards in the front of the houses. If you haven’t, it’s definitely worth a trip day or night to admire the artistry.
The cards are inspired by a 40+ year old tradition from Kalamazoo, Michigan, one of the neighbors’ home town. Two years ago we shared the full story about how the Del Ray version of this holiday tradition started as well as instructions for making your own card.
Since then, a few more cards have been added.
If you’re wondering how the cards stand up, you can see in this picture that the homeowners rested their card on a stepladder with a brick it front to keep it from sliding down. Each one has a spotlight for viewing at night.
While you’re out admiring the cards, don’t miss the Little Free Library on the corner too.
