Event: Local Motion Project’s Poetry in Motion

Event: Local Motion Project’s Poetry in Motion

What happens when poetry and dance collide? Sara Lavan, Alexandria resident and owner of the dance studio Local Motion, is excited to show you the connections that happen, in a student performance this Sunday, June 11. (Note that photographer Nate Laird took the photos in this post.)

“Poetry in Motion” features Alexandria Poet Laureate Wendi Kaplan as a guest reader, with dances choreographed by students. Each dance reflects their ideas, hard work, and inspired explorations.

“At Local Motion Project,” says Sara, “our goal is to give kids a fun and supportive place to move, dance, and explore. We believe that by providing a holistic approach to dance education, we expose our community to the social, emotional, mental, and physical benefits of dance. The curriculum is designed to stimulate both a child’s mental and physical development.”
