Get Ready for the MV Big Flea 2017
The annual MV Big Flea, which benefits the Mt Vernon Community School, is back and it wants to help you declutter. Now until mid-April, volunteers are collecting unwanted household items that they will sell at the big event on April 29 at the Mt Vernon Rec Center in Del Ray.
This month, there will be two opportunities to donate: Sunday, January 8 from 12-3 p.m. and Sunday, January 22 from 12-3 p.m. at the storage facility located at 444 Swann Ave. Just look for the orange flea-made “fleahicle” on the corner of Swann and Route 1.
But you don’t have to wait until April to shop for bargains. You can stop by the storage unit during drop-off times to buy anything that has already been donated. This includes dishes and small kitchen appliances, wall art and decorative items, toys and games, tools and hardware, bikes and strollers, and lots of furniture, ripe for the DIY eye.
The Flea accepts pretty much anything that you’d find at a yard sale that has resale value. However, they do not accept books, clothing, stuffed animals, mattresses and most upholstered furniture. If you aren’t sure if the Flea can accept something, check out their donation guide or email a picture and description to firstname.lastname@example.org. All donations are tax-deductible.
If you have large furniture you can’t move, contact email@example.com to get on their pick-up schedule. Make sure to send a photo, description and dimensions.
Stay tuned to the Flea Facebook page for updates about future drop-off and shopping days. There will be more in February, March and April leading up to the main event on April 29, 2017.
