Save the Date: 2015 Del Ray Residential Architecture Conference

If you love local architecture and history as much as we do, you’ll want to save the date for the Del Ray Residential Architecture Conference on September 19 sponsored by the Del Ray Citizens Association.

The event marks the public release of the new Del Ray Pattern Book, a “user-friendly, non-binding, residential architectural pattern book for the Del Ray neighborhood.” The book will be helpful for anyone wishing to make alterations to their homes while maintaining historical design elements.

Following the conference, directions will be provided for a self-guided walking tour, taking you by the many different types of architecture we have in the neighborhood. There will also be a preview of some of the homes to be featured on the 2016 Del Ray House & Garden Tour. We don’t know which homes will be highlighted quite yet, but for sure there will be some bungalows, colonials, farmhouses and Sears kit homes similar to these:

Stephanie Sample, a historic preservation planner with the city of Alexandria, also tells us attendees “will get a quick tutorial on how to research the history of your own home, learn how to obtain tax credits for certified rehabilitations, and get a better understanding of how the neighborhood plaque program works.”

Save the date — we’ll post more information as it becomes available:
