Sneak Preview #5: 2014 Del Ray House and Garden Tour
This is a home on the 2014 Del Ray House and Garden Tour you’ll want to linger in, taking note of all of the beautiful renovations and the exquisite interior design, not to mention the gorgeous gardens.
The owners have done a lot of the work in their 1920s home themselves incorporating salvaged and repurposed materials like the original pine floors, old doors, and doorknobs. These hand-built bookcases run the length of the 25-foot living room — look closely for the secret TV compartment over the gas fireplace.
Additional architectural features include two sets of French doors on the main floor and an expanded kitchen.
Among their many projects, the owners can tell you how they installed frosted glass in a salvaged old door in the upstairs bathroom.
And one of the most delightful features of this home is getting to witness the owners’ interior design and artistic talent up close.
I’m tempted to recommend that you head straight for the garden before touring the interior of the home to feast your eyes on their white wisteria, the grove of trees, avid Austen roses, perennials, laurels, hollies, and flowering shrubs.
My daughter Nadja went with me to preview this home and is so happy to know the name of the dogs she’s been visiting on our alley walks all these months. They won’t be there on the day of the tour, but are usually outside on nice days if you happen to walk by.
The 2014 Del Ray House and Garden Tour is Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Advance tickets for the tour are $20 and can be purchased online until May 1.
