Del Ray’s Retro Rides and Classic Cruisers
Have you noticed all the awesome cars around Del Ray? Vintage Continentals in pristine condition, Pontiac muscle cars ready to race, retro pick-ups in campy shades of turquoise and orange, even a few old-timey cars. It wasn’t until recently — around the time my 4-year-old became obsessed with everything car-related — that I started to pay more attention to the unique vehicles scattered throughout Del Ray.
The first car to really catch my eye was this sleek black Continental. I’m not sure why I took the picture, I guess I thought it was just too cool not to capture. Fortunately, it resides a block away from my house so we see it pretty regularly.
And then I noticed more and more cars. I started posting pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #carsofdelray. Some of the cars didn’t have that chic coolness of the Continental, but they definitely had character.
I especially love the colors on the trucks. These are the cars that make you think, they don’t make them like they used to.
I saw this one a few times before I took a picture. With its oversized luggage rack, it would fit right in as a prop in an Indiana Jones movie.
Old-timey cars like this one are frequently used to escort VIPs during the many parades in Old Town. I imagine its horn makes that signature AOOGAH sound.
These two remind my sons of the cars from the movie Cars, Sheriff and Lightning McQueen respectively.
During my car photo infatuation, I found out some of the parents at my son’s school collect cars. We got a personal tour of Steve’s Continental, which he found in a barn and restored. Its sky blue paint and chrome details are impeccable.
I’ve heard there are others cool cars around Del Ray (even a car club that gathers owners to talk shop) and I’m hoping to discover more on our walks around the neighborhood. Have you noticed any interesting cars around Del Ray? Do you own one you’d let us photograph?
