Today, we are doing something a little different here — we’re participating in an online scavenger hunt and we hope you will play along.
First, some background info. A while ago, I posted a story about my sons’ twin beds that have been passed down through my family for over 100 years.
The story grabbed the attention of the folks at Houstory, a publishing site and blog (Houstory Hearth) dedicated to preserving family history. Their site is chock full of resources to help people preserve and share the stories behind family heirlooms and precious belongings, including their newly launched Heirloom Registry.™
I created a record on the Heirloom Registry for my sons’ beds — including photos and a story of how they came to be. Now there’s a record (other than in my head) of the various owners of the beds throughout the years.
And now, along with several other bloggers and genealogy websites, the beds and I are participating in a week-long scavenger hunt using the Heirloom Registry. Best part of it, there are prizes every day of the hunt.
How to Participate
- Go to The Houstory Hearth blog’s Scavenger Hunt Page to find information about the hunt, the prizes and the list of the other three blogs you’ll need to visit today (we’re on Hunt No. 2).
- On each blog, you’ll see a post similar to this one. Make note of the Heirloom Registry ID Code for the blogger’s heirloom (the ID for my sons’ beds is PFSZ-832-693-2920-2011).
- Use the ID Code to look up each record in the Heirloom Registry and click on “View/Print Registry Certificate.” You’ll find the secret words underneath the Scavenger Hunt logo.
- Submit your entry form on the Houstory Hearth blog.
Be sure to submit your entry form with your secret words before Thursday, March 7, 2013 at midnight PST. Instructions for Hunt No. 3 will be posted at the Houstory Hearth at 12 a.m. EST on March 8. Good luck – and happy hunting!

You are so fun! I love this.
Also, “the beds and I are participating” may be the best blog line yet.
Agreed. Great line.
Thanks for participating — we hope everyone had fun!
