Oh How We Love Our Del Ray Porches

Oh How We Love Our Del Ray Porches

When travel magazines feature Del Ray, they always highlight our neighborhood’s “front porch community.” True, homes with porches around town are ubiquitous — in row houses and detached homes alike — and the styles and ways in which the homeowners decorate them are just as wonderfully varied.

I’m willing to bet that you’ll get a friendly wave from someone enjoying their porch swing on just about every block in town, some with colorful shutters on the windows like these in lavender.

And this ornate wrought-iron love seat is certainly a lovely sight to behold.

The purple pillows look perfectly inviting on this porch with the bright white bamboo and wicker furniture. The homeowners also have one of the versatile indoor/outdoor rugs.

A screened-in porch is just right for mosquito-ridden summer nights.

And an enclosed porch with glass shutters can be an all-season hangout.

Wrap-around porches are great for entertaining large groups.

And this one could host a whopper of a gathering.

You can’t do much better than to outfit your porch with a pair of rocking chairs.

Here’s a sweet bamboo rocking chair, again made even more comfy with its oversized pillow.

It’s also not uncommon to see a hammock in place of the porch swing.

But a double-decker porch is rare, and this one is oh so delightful. Reminds me of New Orleans.

Your front porch is the first impression visitors often have of your home, so an attention to detail is key. Perhaps you want to present a clean, formal, but tasteful look.

The red wreath on this charmer is a classy touch as well.

A porch swing, a ceiling fan, and a heart-shaped rain chime make this porch a happy sight.

Here’s one that has a country cabin feel, with its log pile off to the side (complete with squirrel perched atop), the fire engine red vintage mail box, and kindling in weathered wine caskets.

Many porches also display the plaque that declares that the home is recognized by the Town of Potomac as belonging to the registry of historic places.

I love the big star gracing the front porch of this home and the pendant lamp that echoes the shape.

When Del Ray Café renovated an old Del Ray home, they preserved the front porch, expanding it and creating a delightful outdoor eating space.
