An Afternoon with the Alexandria Aces

What do you do when you don’t want to work on a home improvement project, it’s Father’s Day, and the weather is absolutely perfect? Head to the ball park of course! Our family loves that the Alexandria Aces, of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Summer League, play their home games just steps from Del Ray at Four Mile Run Park.

We watched the Aces play this past Sunday against the DC Grays amid bright sun, cool breezes, and several dozen Aces fans.

Sitting right behind the dugout, we celebrated along with the team after an incredible home run.

And enjoyed freshly grilled hot dogs, the quintessential ball park fare.

It was an action-packed game, as these photos my husband took illustrate.

The Cora Kelly Community Garden is right behind the bleachers. It’s looking quite spectacular this time of year. I checked it out during the 7th inning stretch.

There’s something for everyone at an Aces game — my husband gets to hone his sports photography skills, my sons get to dream of being baseball stars, and I get an afternoon break from a long list of projects [self-inflicted of course] at home.

The next afternoon game is on Sunday, June 24 at 1:30pm. If you aren’t at home working on a DIY project, hope to see you there!
