What fabulous features do you think are hiding behind this front door?
Perhaps you’ll find a pool table where neighbors gather on Saturday nights to chat about the latest restaurant to pop up in Del Ray, the line-up for this summer’s Cinema Del Ray, or more contentious topics like local politics and schools.
A 1920s two-faced clock mounted on a wall which looks like it too has a few stories to tell.
Or a built-in china cabinet with craftsman charm and delicate glass knobs that guests admire as they enjoy an elegant dinner in the grand front dining room.
Yes, you’ll find all of these intriguing features and more behind that front door. This is one of the 12 stops on the Del Ray House and Garden Tour, May 19, 2012. It’s the one day out of the year you can walk inside the homes of people you don’t know without feeling like an intruder or an open house crasher.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll show you a few more of the amazing abodes on this year’s tour. In the meantime, you can purchase your ticket by visiting the Del Ray Citizens Association website or stopping by the Del Ray Farmer’s Market or A Show of Hands on the Avenue.
Besides drooling over decorating schemes, unique architectural details, and lush well-groomed gardens, the best part about the tour is that proceeds go back into our community. This year’s tour will support the Alexandria Scholarship Fund and landscaping at the “Pocket Park” at the corner of Commonwealth and East Del Ray Avenues.
We’ll see you inside!
