Holiday Gift Baskets from Downtown Del Ray, Part II

Holiday Gift Baskets from Downtown Del Ray, Part II

A few weeks ago, we wrote about sweet and savory treats you can find on Mt. Vernon Ave. in Del Ray to add to a gift basket or gobble up yourself. Yesterday, DIY Del Ray took another stroll in search of more gifts of the non-perishable variety. Ideas abound.

Once again, we return to St. Elmo’s but this time for a to-go mug and tshirt.

I love the pool ball wine stopper from Kiskadee. I also like their series of handsome ties for the man on your list and a dinner party game that looks like a lot of fun. Kiskadee mainly carries clothing and jewelry, but I went in looking specifically for smaller gift items.

A Show of Hands features a variety of wonderful handmade creations from local artists and musicians. Their store has so many affordable items to choose from like a signed CD from a local musician, or lavender sachets, letter openers, handmade wooden bowls, and crocheted coffee cup cozies.

If you can take your eyes off the custard board for one minute, you might spot a magic wand or a tshirt or onesie for your gift basket from The Dairy Godmother.

You can find gifts for children galore at Purple Goose, more barrettes than you ever imagined existed — seasonally themed and for every occasion – every one as cute as can be. Purple Goose stocks gorgeous clothing for children, new and consigned, as well as a growing inventory of toys. I might add some Hello Kitty socks to my gift basket as well.

Bellies & Babies, an upscale children and maternity consignment store a few doors down, has an entire section devoted to handmade gifts by local Moms. I love the darling hats and the appliqued tshirts. They’re also selling a book about the meaning of Christmas written and illustrated by a local Mom.

And speaking of projects by Del Ray moms, visit the Del Ray Baby online store where you can buy onesies and tshirts to flaunt your love for our little neighborhood.

Last stop of the day is Eclectic Nature, which carries anything and everything to decorate your home for the holidays. A plant and landscaping business, Eclectic Nature has a nice selection of small potted plants that are perfect for holiday gift baskets. You can also choose from a variety of ornaments, even ones geared to the gardener in the family, such as little spades and rakes and decorative stakes to adorn an indoor or outdoor potted plant.

Many of the businesses in Del Ray are open late this Friday, December 2 for the Holiday Tree Lighting and Luminarias event sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association.

  1. Oh man, this makes me miss Del Ray! Love all of those shops. I’m also bummed that Artfully Paper moved to Old Town – they were one of my go-to shops for great gifts.
